We find the cause, not just the symptom
Same Day Electrical Troubleshooting and Repair in Orem, UT
Some electrical problems are a mystery. The bedroom lights flicker only when the dryer runs. Three outlets died and no breaker tripped. Our Orem electricians use the right test tools to find the real fault, explain it in plain words, and fix it. Most calls get same day help. If it turns dangerous, our 24 hour line is always open. For electrical troubleshooting emergencies, we send an electrician near you as fast as we can.
What your symptom usually means
We see the same patterns across Utah Valley homes. This table is a starting point, not a diagnosis. Testing tells the real story.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Usual fix |
|---|---|---|
| Lights flicker when appliances start | Loose connection or overloaded circuit | Tighten or move loads to a new circuit |
| Several outlets dead, no breaker tripped | A tripped GFCI upstream or a burned splice | Reset or replace the GFCI, repair the splice |
| Half the house has no power | Failed main breaker or a lost leg of service | Urgent. See 24/7 Emergency Electrical Repair |
| Breaker trips at random | Worn breaker or a hidden short | Test, then breaker repair and replacement |
| Outlet works only if you wiggle the plug | Worn contacts inside the outlet | Replace with a new spec-grade outlet |
| Lights get brighter and dimmer by themselves | Loose or broken neutral | Urgent repair at the panel or service |

How we track down hidden faults
Guessing costs you money. Swapping parts until something works is not troubleshooting. We test.
Our tools
- Digital multimeters to read voltage under load
- Circuit tracers to map which outlets share a breaker
- Thermal cameras to spot hot connections inside walls and panels
Once we know the cause, we show you the reading and the fix. You decide what happens next.
Three steps to a solved problem
Clear and simple, so you are never left wondering what we did.
Listen and look
You tell us when it happens. We check the panel and the problem area.
Test and trace
We follow the circuit from the breaker to the last outlet until we find the fault.
Fix and prove it
We repair it, then show you the circuit working under a real load.
Simple checks before you call
These quick checks are safe for anyone and can save you a visit. Stop if anything feels warm or smells hot.
Press every GFCI button
Check kitchen, bath, garage and outdoor outlets. One tripped GFCI can kill power to others.
Look for a half-tripped breaker
A tripped breaker sits in the middle. Push it to OFF, then back ON.
Try a different bulb
A failing LED or a loose bulb can mimic a wiring problem.
Note the timing
Write down when it happens. Is it when the AC, microwave or dryer starts?

Electrical troubleshooting questions
Why do my lights flicker when the AC turns on?
A big motor pulls a burst of power when it starts. If lights dim a lot, a connection may be loose or the circuit may be overloaded. It is worth a test.
Why are some outlets dead when no breaker tripped?
Often a GFCI outlet in another room has tripped. Press reset on every GFCI. If that doesn't work, a connection may have burned open.
Is flickering dangerous?
One flickering bulb usually isn't. Flickering in many rooms, or lights that surge brighter, can mean a loose neutral and should be checked soon.
How long does troubleshooting take?
Many problems are found within the first hour. Intermittent faults that come and go can take longer to catch.
Can you fix it the same day?
Most of the time, yes. We carry common breakers, outlets and wire so we can repair the fault while we are there.
Do you troubleshoot older Orem homes?
Yes. Homes from the 1960s and 70s are a big part of our work, including two-prong outlets and aluminum wiring.
