Room for the EV, the hot tub and whatever comes next

Electrical Panel Upgrade in Orem, UT With Emergency Panel Repair

Your panel decides how much your home can safely run. Many Orem homes built in the 1970s and 80s still have the panel they started with. Add central air, an induction range or an EV charger, and that panel runs out of room. Our licensed team upgrades panels the right way, from permit to final inspection. Need help sooner? Ask about same day assessments, and call our 24 hour line if your panel is hot or buzzing. For electrical panel upgrade emergencies, we send an electrician near you as fast as we can.

Why so many Orem homes need more capacity

A home from 1978 was built for a fridge, a range, a dryer and some lights. Today that same house may have two fridges, central air, a home office and an electric car.

When the load gets close to what the panel can carry, you start to notice:

  • Breakers that trip when two big things run together
  • Lights that dim when the AC kicks on
  • No open spaces for new circuits
  • Tandem breakers squeezed in to fit more circuits

An upgrade gives you safe capacity now and room for the future.

Signs it is time to replace your panel

Some signs are about capacity. Others are about safety and should not wait.

Not sure? Start with an Electrical Safety Inspection.

A known problem brand

Federal Pacific, Zinsco and some Challenger panels have a history of breakers that may not trip.

Fuses instead of breakers

Fuse boxes are outdated and often overloaded with the wrong fuse sizes.

Rust or water stains

Moisture inside a panel corrodes connections and breakers.

Warm cover or burning smell

This is urgent. Call for 24/7 emergency electrical repair.

No room to add circuits

Every slot is full and you want to add an EV charger, hot tub or new kitchen.

Selling or insuring the home

Buyers' inspectors and some insurers flag old panels.

How a panel upgrade works, step by step

Most upgrades take one day of work, plus the time to get a permit and schedule the power company.

  1. Load check

We add up what your home runs now and what you plan to add, then size the new panel.

  2. Permit and utility

We file the Orem City permit and schedule Rocky Mountain Power to disconnect and reconnect.

  3. Install day

Power goes off, the old panel comes out, the new panel goes in, and every circuit is moved and labeled.

  4. Inspect and power up

The city inspects, the utility reconnects, and we test every circuit with you.

100, 150 or 200 amps: what fits your home?

Every home is different, so we always run a load calculation. This is a general guide.

General guide to service size by home type
Service sizeOften fitsRoom for EV or hot tub?
100 ampSmaller homes with gas heat and gas appliancesUsually tight or no
150 ampMid-size homes with central airSometimes, with careful planning
200 ampMost family homes in Utah Valley todayUsually yes
Larger than 200 ampLarge homes, all-electric homes, shopsYes, plan with an engineer if needed

A load calculation follows the National Electrical Code. It is the only way to size a panel correctly.

Panels we install and what we add while we are there

A panel upgrade is the best time to add protection and plan ahead.

Trusted panel brands

We install Square D, Eaton and Siemens load centers built for decades of use.

Whole-home surge protection

Add a surge device right at the panel. See Whole-Home Surge Protection.

Space for an EV

We leave room and capacity for EV Charger Installation.

Generator ready

Add an interlock or inlet so you can use a portable generator later.

Electrical panel upgrade questions

How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?

Common signs are a 100-amp or smaller panel, breakers that trip often, no space for new circuits, or a known problem brand like Federal Pacific or Zinsco.

Can I upgrade a 100 amp panel to 200 amps?

Often, yes. A 200-amp upgrade may also need a new meter base and service wires. We check what your home needs and coordinate with Rocky Mountain Power.

How long does a panel upgrade take?

The install itself usually takes one day. Permits and utility scheduling can add some days before and after.

Will my power be off all day?

Power is off during the swap, usually several hours. We plan it so you know exactly when.

Do I need a permit for a panel upgrade in Orem?

Yes. Panel replacements need a permit and inspection. We file the permit and meet the inspector.

Is a panel upgrade worth it if I sell my home?

It can be. Buyers and inspectors often flag old or undersized panels. A new, labeled panel is a strong selling point.

Ready for a panel that keeps up?

Book a load check. We tell you what size you need and handle the permit, utility and inspection.
